In the Islamic tradition, empirical experience is not considered the sole source of knowledge but is integrated with reason and revelation. This article aims to analyze the concept of empiricism in the Islamic tradition, the ideas of Muslim scholars who demonstrate empirical tendencies, and the integration of reason, revelation, and experience within Islamic epistemology. This article employs a literature review approach by examining various sources addressing empiricism, Islamic epistemology, and the thoughts of Muslim scientists and philosophers. The findings indicate that the empirical tradition in Islam provides an important place for observation, sensory experience, experimentation, and inductive reasoning in the acquisition of knowledge. The ideas of Ibn Taymiyyah, Ibn Sina, and Ibn al-Haytham demonstrate that empirical experience does not stand alone but interacts with human rational capacity. Revelation provides normative direction and a theological orientation, reason functions to analyze and process knowledge, while experience provides concrete data about reality. Thus, Islamic epistemology establishes a harmonious relationship among experience, rationality, and revelation.
Winda Nur Aziza, Muhammad Hadi Masruri Copyright (c) 2026 Winda Nur Aziza, Muhammad Hadi Masruri https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 https://jurnal.stiq.assyifa.ac.id/alafkar/article/view/1395 Sun, 23 Aug 2026 00:00:00 +0000 Perkembangan Pemikiran Tafsir KH. Sholeh Darat dalam Kitab Faidh Al-Rahman dan Kontribusinya terhadap Perkembangan Tafsir Nusantara https://jurnal.stiq.assyifa.ac.id/alafkar/article/view/1375
Faidh al-Rahman fi Tarjamah Tafsir Kalam Malik al-Dayyan by KH. Sholeh Darat is one of the significant works in the tradition of Nusantara Qur’anic exegesis that emerged during the Dutch colonial period. This tafsir serves not only as a means of understanding the Qur’an but also as a medium for Islamic preaching and religious education for Javanese society through the use of the Javanese language written in Pegon script. This study aims to analyze the development of KH. Sholeh Darat’s exegetical thought in Faidh al-Rahman and to explain its contribution to the development of Nusantara tafsir. The research employs a library research method with historical and descriptive-analytical approaches. Primary data were obtained from Faidh al-Rahman fi Tarjamah Tafsir Kalam Malik al-Dayyan, while secondary data were collected from scholarly journals, books, and relevant studies. The findings reveal that KH. Sholeh Darat’s exegetical thought developed through five main orientations: vernacularization of Qur’anic understanding through Javanese Pegon, integration of Islamic law and Sufism, contextualization of Qur’anic teachings, cultural resistance to colonialism, and the use of tafsir as a medium of transformative da‘wah. This study concludes that Faidh al-Rahman presents a communicative, contextual, and adaptive model of interpretation that significantly contributed to the development of the Nusantara tafsir tradition.
Merry Amelia, Dede Nurhayani, Dian Permana Copyright (c) 2026 Merry Amelia, Dede Nurhayani, Dian Permana https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 https://jurnal.stiq.assyifa.ac.id/alafkar/article/view/1375 Fri, 28 Aug 2026 00:00:00 +0000
