Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of a drug and online gambling prevention education program using a qualitative approach through a case study in Huta Raja Village, Mandailing Natal. The phenomenon of drug abuse and the increasing practice of online gambling among village youth is a serious problem that threatens the health, character, and future of the younger generation. Rural environments that are increasingly connected to the internet and the influence of outside culture make adolescents vulnerable to these deviant behaviors. Research participants included high school students/Islamic high school students around the village, guidance counselors, community leaders, and parents. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations of outreach activities, and village documentation, then analyzed using observation and interview models conducted by 16 Community Service Program (KKN) groups in Huta Raja Village. The results showed that the drug prevention education program successfully raised adolescent awareness through lectures, group discussions, and religious activities integrated with local culture. Meanwhile, online gambling prevention focused on strengthening digital literacy, limiting excessive internet access, and parental guidance. Collaboration between schools, village governments, religious leaders, and KKN groups was a determining factor in success. This study confirms that prevention efforts in rural communities require a contextual approach with local wisdom and multi-stakeholder support to be more effective.
